John Legend has been called many things over his career: talented, hard-working, successful.
But this is a new one: A New Jersey songwriter named Anthony Stokes claims the musician is a hack.
John Legend - Maxine's Interlude
According to court documents filed this week, Stokes says he gave Legend a demo tape in 2004 at the University of North Carolina. He never heard back from the famous singer... but then heard Legend's "Maxine's Interlude" and and believes it was based on Stokes' track, "Where Are You Now?"
Stokes is demanding damages from Legend and attempting to block sales of "Maxine's Interlude."
We've posted Legend's single above and you can listen to Stokes croon his song HERE. Think Stokes has a case?

With Casey Anthony being released from jail on July 17, many are wondering, "What's next for her?" And also: "Will it involve a TV show?"
There's good reason to consider the possibility. According to the Los Angeles Times, rumors flew Thursday that she had been signed by the talent agency, William Morris. The scuttlebutt was quickly denied by the agency itself. But the Times also pointed out the ample history of notorious figures making their way onto the TV airwaves, including Amy Fisher (Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew), Rod Blagojevich (The Celebrity Apprentice), Tonya Harding (Celebrity Boxing), and Eliot Spitzer (CNN's In The Arena).
Of course, none of those people were ever charged with murder. And while Anthony may have been acquitted, she has certainly lost credibility in the court of public opinion. Would casting her in a show be too distasteful, even in our current, anything-goes celebrity climate? Maybe.
On the other hand, reporting on Anthony has brought record ratings to the HLN network. According to The New York Times, Nancy Grace's coverage of the verdict attracted "the biggest audience in the six-year history of the show."
Despicable as exploiting Anthony's popularity sounds, she obviously would pique the interest of TV viewers. So the question is: How low will TV execs go?

MAJOR shakeup in the "Big Brother" house -- CBS confirms Evel Dick Donato had to leave the show for "personal reasons" ... and will no longer compete this season.
The network wouldn't specify the exact reason for Evel Dick's departure. Dick -- who won the $500,000 grand prize on "Big Brother" Season 8 -- was invited back on the show this season, along with his estranged daughter Daniele. Daniele will continue to participate in the show -- and because of Evel Dick's departure, she was given a "golden key" ... which guarantees she can not be eliminated in the next 4 weeks.CBS states, "His departure will be addressed on the episode to be broadcast on Wednesday, July 13. The wheels may be coming off the Jersey Shore money train.
Last week, Vinny Guadagnino peaced out abruptly in the middle of filming, walking out of the house, heading home to Staten Island and not coming back.
Now reports say The Situation has done the same.
Sources say Sitch (real name Mike Sorrentino) abandoned his costars and decided to head home early: "Mike walked off the show. He's so over the whole thing ... I don't think he's coming back. Everyone in the house is so unhappy."
The cast returned from Italy to begin filming Season 5 of Jersey Shore where it all began in the familiar confines of a Seaside Heights, N.J. beach house.
It's unclear what sent The Situation and Vinny packing. Maybe a lack of break from filming between seasons is taking its toll? Something is amiss.
What is the Jersey Shore without The Situation and Vinny? Something you would even watch? Are other cast members days away from bailing too?

The things we do for love! Jennifer Aniston's new beau, Justin Theroux, cleaned up his act and shaved his beard for the actress' Hand and Foot Ceremony at Grauman's Chinese Theatre on Thursday.
Dressed to impress in a white button-down shirt, black pants, and a skinny black tie, Theroux, watched from his seat as Aniston, pressed her hands into wet concrete in front of the iconic theater and blew him a kiss.
"She was beaming," an onlooker told People.com. "She couldn't have looked happier."
We know she's pretty into him, but do you think her smiles were because of his new look? Do you think he looks better bearded or fresh-faced? Let us know!

Soap fans rarely get good news these days. There's hardly a soap-related headline that doesn't feature the word "cancelled"! But today, for once, there's something positive to report.
As long-time viewers come to grips with the recent cancellation of All My Children and One Life to Live, the New York Post is reporting that these shows may actually go on -- on the web. ABC has sold the online rights to both series to a media company, Prospect Park, that plans to keep the shows alive on a "TV-focused online network once the soaps finish their four-decade run on ABC."
That means that when All My Children and One Life to Live leave the air in September and January, their storylines wouldn't wrap up for good. They would simply continue on the new, online network. Ostensibly, the actors, writers and producers would get to keep their jobs, and viewers wouldn't have to give up their daily dose of scheming temptresses and long-lost siblings back from the dead. It's a win-win for everyone!
But don't pop the champagne quite yet. The soap world's troubles have always come down to lagging revenues, and the online network will have to figure out how to turn a profit, too.
"Prospect Park is said to be finalizing its current round of funding for its Hulu-style venture in the next month to 45 days," reports The Post. "Other unnamed financial backers are involved. The financial terms couldn’t be learned." In other words, the all-important money issue hasn't yet been resolved.
But if the financing does work out, the site could be a possible destination for other canceled shows. In the future, frustrated fans of yanked shows might mount online campaigns to bring them to the web. The only question, then, is: will more people start watching TV online? If their favorite shows are airing only there, you can bet they will.
