Maria Shriver: Thanks For The Offers, but No Thanks

Filed under: Maria Shriver, Oprah Winfrey, Deadline, TV

Sources connected with various broadcast and cable networks tell TMZ ... Maria Shriver has been deluged with offers to go back on the air, but she's turning them all down flat ... at least for now.

Maria has been getting offers to host talk shows, anchor news magazine shows and join news organizations, but she made it clear she does not want a time-consuming job that will take her away from her responsibilities as a mom.

We're told all of the usual suspects on broadcast and cable are trying to snag an interview with Maria, but she has no interest.  We're told Maria has "a special place in her heart for Oprah" and if she ends up doing anything it will probably be with her.

Bottom line ... Maria doesn't want a full-time job now -- and with a settlement that could approach $200 million, she doesn't need it.

Red Hot Chili Peppers Explain: Why I'm With You?

New guitarist Josh Klinghoffer came up with album title, which has become a rallying cry for Chili Peppers fans.
By James Montgomery

By now, you've probably seen the cover of the Red Hot Chili Peppers' I'm With You, a minimal, macabre work by British artist Damien Hirst that's a long way from the hyper-color, freak-out cover of The Uplift Mofo Party Plan, to say the very least (and, as any art major can probably tell you, sort of recalls Hirst's own "Lullaby Spring" too).

Now that you're familiar with the artwork that will adorn the album, you may be wondering about that title — after all, I'm With You is the first Chili Peppers effort since 1989's Mother's Milk not to take its name from a song on the album. So why did they decide to break from tradition this time out? Well, as they told MTV News last month (in an interview you'll be seeing plenty more of in the very near future), it had everything to do with new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer and a single scooch.

"We thought of calling it a song title off the record, and when I mentioned that to [producer] Rick [Rubin], he said, 'That just makes it seem like we don't have enough ideas,' " RHCP frontman Anthony Kiedis said. "And I didn't even stop to think of the fact that every one of our records is like that, and I don't think 'shortage of ideas' was ever our primary dilemma, considering the mountain range of scraps we left behind. So, as an experiment, I started making lists of titles, and all of them, in retrospect, were quite lame, and none of them really captured the spirit of this record, which we had all very much fallen in love with.

"And then Josh showed up one day, maybe a day before there was some sort of deadline for a title, and he wrote ['I'm With You'] on a piece of paper," he continued, "And very subtly scooched it [in front of me], and I was like, 'What's that?' And we all kind of put our eyes on it at the same time and went: 'That is the title of our record.' "

Klinghoffer said the title came to him almost out of nowhere but that it seemed perfect — not just for the band's new album, but for where they are at this point in their careers too.

"It seems pretty open, pretty apropos to where the band is, what the band's doing, how the record wants to be related to, or related with," he explained.

And, though it may not be the most traditional Chili Peppers title, I'm With You has already taken on new life as a de facto rallying cry for the band's fans. And that's an added bonus no one in the band could have ever predicted.

"It's open, and there's not really a negative connotation. It's inviting. The first time I heard a non-one-of-us mention it, it gave me the best feeling you could imagine," Kiedis said. "Unbeknownst to me, the news [of the album's title] had hit the radio, and some kid came up to me and he shook my hand and he said, 'I'm with you!' And I was like, 'Why are you saying that? Where did you hear that?' He said, 'I'm with you!' And then I realized that he must've heard it on the radio or something, and it was just a great feeling."

Eva and Eduardo Sprint to Their Next Romantic Destination

Eva Longoria and Eduardo Cruz sprinted through a terminal in Spain yesterday rushing to make it to their departing train. The pair made it on board with seconds to spare as they continue to trek across Eduardo's home country. They began their trip with a romantic dinner double date with Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem and continued spicing things up over the weekend when Eva slipped into a sexy white bikini for their day cruise off the coast. The Desperate Housewives actress can count on a few more days of R&R before she's needed back in the States since her friend Victoria Beckham has yet to give birth, so Eva's duties as godmother haven't kicked in quite yet.

Jill Scott 'Still Tripping' Off #1 Album

'I know I only got a week!' she laughs to MTV News about a chart bump from Beyoncé's 4.

NEW ORLEANS Jill Scott was still catching her breath when we caught up with her after a jubilant show at the 2011 Essence Music Festival. But from what we could gather, she may well have been having her best week ever.

Not only was she coming off of a "sick" Saturday night lineup that included crooner El DeBarge, the legendary Chaka Khan and Kanye West, Jilly from Philly was also celebrating her brand-new disc, The Light of the Sun, which entered the Billboard albums chart at #1, the first of her career. MTV News asked the "Golden" singer how she reacted to the feat.

"I didn't see that coming," she admitted. "I guess every artist hopes people will appreciate what they do and enjoy them, but I didn't see it coming," Scott gushed. "I'm still tripping off it."

And while the sequin-clad songstress — in top form after shedding several lb's — was savoring the moment, she wasn't anticipating holding onto the peak position. A certain diva seemed poised to turn her 4 into a 1, Scott acknowledged with a smile.

"I know I only got a week! You know, Beyoncé's coming out," she laughed, "and she's amazing. And I know I got a week, but I'm so glad I got my week. I'm enjoying it, I'm lavishing in it."

Like B's album, Sun marks Scott's fourth release, and she touched on its overarching themes. In recent years, the star of HBO's "No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency" endured a divorce from longtime love Lyzel Williams (he inspired some of the material on her lauded '01 debut, Who Is Jill Scott?) and then found love again with her drummer Lil' John Roberts only to have the curtains come down on that romance as well. Her personal ups and downs appear to have colored her latest disc.

"The Light of the Sun is really about growing up; it's about facing yourself. It's about passion, weaknesses, falling short from grace, getting lost in the flesh. ... It's all about coming out of darkness and coming into light."

Maria Shriver Files for Divorce from Arnold Schwarzenegger

Maria Shriver Files for Divorce from Arnold Schwarzenegger

Maria Shriver is officially moving on. Two months after Arnold Schwarzenegger publicly admitted to fathering a child with housekeeper Mildred Baena, Shriver has filed for divorce from her husband of 25 years. The papers submitted on Friday cite "irreconcilable differences" -- which, really, is all that needs to be said.

Shriver has asked for joint custody of the couple's two sons, Patrick, 17, and Christopher, 13. (Their daughters, Katherine, 21, and Christina, 19, are no longer minors, so they don't factor into the custody arrangements.) She's also seeking spousal support from Schwarzenegger, as well as attorney's fees.

The divorce filing doesn't indicate a prenuptial agreement, which means that Shriver and Schwarzenegger's assets will be split in half, per California law. Though Shriver is a Kennedy heir, it appears that Schwarzenegger's business ventures and films have made him the wealthier spouse -- meaning that Shriver will get the better deal. Can we all agree that she deserves it?

There's something else that Maria Shriver may be getting out of the divorce: a lucrative book deal. RadarOnline reports that Shriver could get a record-breaking sum for writing a memoir about her life, from growing up a Kennedy to marrying a movie star to becoming the Governator's wife.

One publishing exec says Shriver could surpass Bill Clinton's $15 million advance for My Life, the highest that's ever been offered by the publishing world. Shriver has always been fairly private, and hasn't indicated that she wants to write a tell-all -- but should she decide to do it, it would certainly be a profitable (and perhaps therapeutic) form of revenge.

Selena Gomez's Nobu Night Out

Capping off an exciting day overseas, Selena Gomez enjoyed an evening on the town in London with a dinner outing at Nobu on Tuesday night (July 5).

The "Who Says" singer was looking fabulous in a frilly off-the-shoulder top with baggy black pants and an MCM handbag as she and her gal pals noshed on Japanese cuisine at the trendy eatery.

Earlier in the day, Selena made a promotional stop at London's HMV store, as she tweeted after the meet and greet, "Thanks to all of you who came out to see me at HMV me this afternoon. It was so good to see y'all!"

In London promoting her new album "When The Sun Goes Down," Gomez told Billboard of her maturing sound, "I'm still the same person, but I am getting older, so I wanted to create a while different kind of fun sound when it came to the lyrics. The lyrics are a lot more cheeky on this album...and the music's really fun."

She added that the album is "more positive, which I haven't really done a lot of. 'Naturally' and 'Who Says,' which are my biggest songs, are both very positive, but most of my records are kind of intense break-up songs and a little bit repetitive with what I'm singing about. So I guess I'm really excited about the fact that most of (the album) is really uplifting songs about summer and being able to be present and happy with where you are and enjoying the moment. It's a really empowering record and that's just more of the place I was in, so I wanted it to be really powerful and to be something that was inspiring."

As for her upcoming seven-week "When The Sun Goes Down Tour - which starts July 24 - the 18-year-old revealed, "We're dividing it into four sections. We're going to have wardrobe changes. There's going to be dancers -- I will not be dancing most of the time. They'll just be back there getting the crowd pumped up. We're going to have fun screens in the background. It's just gonna be a huge party. I wanted to make it like a PG-13 rave."
