Jake Johnson Raves About 'No Strings Attached' Director Ivan Reitman

'I couldn't debate him on stuff,' actor says of legendary director/producer.

For rising comedic star Jake Johnson, who appears alongside Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman in the new romantic comedy "No Strings Attached," his personal highlight from working on the film (in addition to having the best lines in the trailer and many of the killer one-liners in the film as well) was working with legendary director/producer Ivan Reitman.

"For me, working with Ivan Reitman was crazy because of 'Ghostbusters,' " Johnson recently told MTV News of the man responsible for helping bring comedic classics like "Animal House," "Ghostbusters" and "Meatballs" to the screen. "We did a whole scene where, this was one of the coolest moments of the movie for me, the scene where we're in a fraternity house, partying and, you know, Ivan produced 'Animal House,' " Johnson added. "And we're all hanging out, setting up, and he goes to somebody he was standing next to, we were standing in a little circle, and he goes, 'Man, I'm having flashbacks of "Animal House" in here.' And he looked around and goes, 'This is exactly how it felt, but in a different era.' And I thought, 'That's awesome!' Like, this is actually that man. [He] was there and [John] Belushi and [Bill] Murray and all those guys were such inspirations for our kind of generation. So to see a man who was there, it made it very real."

The actor, who you may recognize from his roles in "Get Him to the Greek" and "Paper Heart," said Reitman's legacy and résumé meant Johnson and the rest of the cast were happy to do whatever their director asked of them.

"Ivan's a guy who we all kind of felt on set that we're all going to bat for him. Anything he says, we're trying," he said. "And it's different when you act with a director who's your age and in your group, because it is more of, you get to battle it out, talk influences, and say like, 'We're trying to do this, but it's more like that,' ... Well, Ivan is the influence!" Johnson enthused. "So I couldn't debate him on stuff. It would be like, 'Yes, sir! Yeah! Let's do that! It's quite right! Like the movie, you made.' "

George Clooney Has Malaria -- But Don't Worry!

George Clooney Has Malaria -- But Don't Worry!

George Clooney has it all: good looks, a successful career, and a mosquito-borne tropical disease. Wait, what? Yes, Clooney told Piers Morgan that he contracted malaria a couple weeks ago in Sudan. He seems oddly cheerful about it, though. Watch the clip below!

"I guess the mosquito in Juba looked at me and thought I was the bar," Clooney joked during the interview, which will air on Friday.

According to Morgan, this is actually Clooney's second bout with malaria, a tropical disease with flu-like symptoms. Malaria kills millions of people a year in third-world countries, but is easily treatable with a drug regimen.

"This illustrates how with proper medication, the most lethal condition in Africa can be reduced to a bad ten days instead of a death," says Clooney, whose rep describes him as "completely over" the disease.

The star of The American visited Sudan during the first week of January, as part of an international effort to prevent violence during the war torn nation's January 9 referendum. (The result of the referendum is that the southern part of Sudan has elected to become independent from the rest of the country.) There was great concern that President Bashir, an indicted war criminal, would incite a war between the northern and southern regions. Clooney has been working against violence in Sudan for over four years, and has met twice with President Obama to discuss United States involvement. (See a video about the actor's work in Sudan, below.)

Clooney obviously takes his humanitarian efforts seriously, but was good-natured when Morgan joked about his multiple bouts with malaria.

"You don't think President Bashir has detached a detail of sickly, vengeful mosquitos to target you whenever you arrive?" the CNN host asked.

"Yeah, I think so," responded Clooney.

Morgan later kidded Clooney via Twitter, saying, "Clooney malaria update: now have 24,563 offers to nurse him. But his rep says medication's worked and he's OK. Sorry, ladies." The interview airs Friday at 9pm on CNN.

What They're Saying:
"At times, No Strings Attached feels almost shockingly attuned to the particular angst of its time and place." - Village Voice

"It's a movie benefiting from another sparkling, sexy and emotionally available performance by Natalie Portman, some clever turns in situations and witty banter that isn't shy about crossing over into Hangover level raunchy." - Orlando Sentinel

The Way Back
Short Story:
Starring Colin Farrell, Jim Sturgess, and Ed Harris, The Way Back tells the story of seven prisoners who flee a Soviet labor camp and begin a 4,000 mile journey to freedom. Inspired by the book "The Long Walk: The True Story of a Trek to Freedom".

What They're Saying:
"That a production this ambitious has been financed and distributed outside the studio system throws a curveball to anyone who thinks "independent film" can mean only urban moderns sitting in an apartment bemoaning their ennui." - Los Angeles Times

"No one will go away disappointed or indifferent. It's a movie that sticks with you like Elmer's glue." - New York Observer

Good For Kids?
For all its seriousness, The Way Back will have the kids begging for a way out.

What They're Saying:
"This haunting movie hits you hard and right where you live." - Rolling Stone

"In its solid construction and resistance to the winds of fashion, The Company Men is one edifice that could outlast many an action blockbuster or standard inspirational drama, and maybe the Great Recession itself. " - TIME Magazine

Good For Kids?
As for The Company Men: let the kids be kids, and leave life's conundrums to the big boys.

What They're Saying:
"The interplay between the Green Hornet and straight man Kato delights, overshadowing Cameron Diaz as a mutual love interest." - Us Weekly

"This Hornet is a big, boisterous action-comedy - a funny, exciting and intentionally goofy summer movie that just happens to arrive in the middle of January." - The Miami Herald

Good For Kids?
Masked superheros, mad villains and suspense make Green Hornet a winner amongst the young folk.

What They're Saying:
"The Dilemma is never dull, but it's also a mess." - Arizona Republic

"The ugly emotional mess is so respectfully handled that the story resonates far beyond its comic designs." - Chicago Reader

Good For Kids?
Issues of love and infidelity won't make The Dilemma a classic kid's film, but teens will enjoy the laugh out loud comedy.

Gwyneth Paltrow Lets Loose With a Late Night Out

Gwyneth Paltrow stayed steady in her high heels as she left the Mayfair hotel in London last night. She enjoyed the evening out to finish her latest jet-setting week. She kicked things off with her turn hosting SNL last weekend and stopped in Geneva for a gala where she looked pretty in pink Alaia. She's been busy promoting Country Strong in recent weeks, and she also got sweet support from Kelly Clarkson who went on her Twitter to plead for Gwyneth to record an album. Through it all, Gwyneth has still been dishing out her weekly dose of wisdom in her GOOP newsletter, though even she admits that every mommy moment isn't perfect.

Diplomats Say, 'Together, We Can Always Do Better'

Reunited Dipset show up for 'RapFix Live,' where Jim Jones says he's glad to have his 'brothers back.'
By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway

When it comes to the reunited Diplomats, the Harlem collective's spat was largely between frontman Cam'ron and capo Jim Jones.

Cam and Jim tossed barbs at each other during interviews, though they were civil enough to acknowledge their childhood friendship. And while Juelz Santana remained neutral for a long time (he eventually sided with Jones), it was Freekey Zekey who constantly urged the pair to put aside their differences.

"Zeke never had a problem with anyone, so he was always trying to get everybody to talk," Cam'ron told host Sway during the Dipset's appearance on "RapFix Live" on Thursday (January 20). "I think everyone just needed to come to an understanding. We could all do great by ourselves, but if we all together, we can always do better. Like Snoop said, I can do whatever I want by myself but when I'm with Dr. Dre, it's breakthroughs, it's miracles, it's stars and it's all types of things in the air."

The rift between Cam and Jones lasted roughly three years until last year when the two announced they'd reconciled; in April 2010 they revealed they were in negotiations for a new record deal. A month later, in Atlanta, the two made their most pronounced appearance together in years when they joined forces at a Converse-sponsored hoops tournament, where they took first place.

Since then, the Harlem crew have been back to their old tricks — with an added wrinkle in new affiliate and Cam protégé Vado — taking shots at Kanye West, re-injecting humor and irreverence back into hip-hop and talking the talk they often do.

In October, Jones spoke to MTV News about being in the studio with Dre, a precursor to their presumed new alliance with Interscope Records.

Now, Jones and company are basking in the glow that their comeback has sparked.

"It's a good feeling, above all," Jones said on "RapFix Live." "You got your brothers back. Me and Cam grew up since we were young. Me and Zeke since 2nd grade. We knew Juelz since he was a young teenager. It's a life-learning lesson. Above all, we kept the brotherhood; no one disrespected anyone. To know we all back, to know we all on the same playing field. The music is even better due to all the experience, walking in your own lane. And it feels good."

What did you think of Dipset's appearance on our "RapFix Live" show? Tell us in the comments!
