If a jam-packed show at Miami's Ultra Music Festival, production collaborations with Rihanna and a sold-out U.S. tour are any indication, America is thirsting for British EDM duo Chase & Status.
Saul "Chase" Milton and Will "Status" Kennard released their second album, No More Idols, in the U.S. this week via Casablanca Records. The album, released in Europe in January 2011, is certified platinum in the U.K., with more than 500,000 units sold.
"We've been over the moon with the success of No More Idols," Kennard told MTV News recently. "It was beyond belief for us, really, and true, tunes have been floating around here for a while, but it's getting a proper release."
Kennard described the "proper release" as a "big, full package" with plenty of remixes, including efforts by Feed Me, Nero and Dillon Francis. The deluxe edition will include a DVD and exclusive content from their 2011 No More Idols Tour.
No More Idols runs a gamut of EDM , with a bit of grime, dubstep, drum n' bass, rock and more. It houses hit U.K. singles in "End Credits" featuring vocalist/actor/friend Plan B, rock-ish hit "Hypest Hype" featuring Tempa T, and the cinematically exquisite "Blind Faith" featuring Liam Bailey, among others.
The hit album has galvanized quite a following Stateside, and Kennard said he and Milton are grateful for the unexpected attention.
"It's an exciting time for electronic dance music, and we are just proud to be a part of it," Kennard said. "We did the tour last year, and we thought it was going to be a wash out, really, because you're a million miles away from home. The record didn't get picked up by radio. So on and so forth. And then you go and do these clubs and these shows, and they are sold out full to the brim with people knowing all the words and everything. And it's a great feeling, man."
Chase & Status plan to bring their live show — often accompanied by drummer Andy Gangadeen, James Brown and vocal collaborators Rage, Tempa T, and Liam Bailey — to Indio, California's Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
Save for a few festival gigs, the duo now mean to hunker down in their lab and hope to complete their third album by year's end. They are still in the early stages, tinkering around with sounds, but they say inspiration is all around them.
"You can't ignore what Skrillex has done," Milton revealed. "We are good friends with Sonny. He's a class act, but musically he's just done something really incredible and just run with it. Nero as well. Odd Future, we are massive fans of what they do."
"I love Die Antwoord," Kennard added. "Love what they are doing. A$AP Rocky is really cool. Kill the Noise. ... There is so much exciting, inspiring stuff."

In the wake of the headlines and harsh criticism generated by the debut and subsequent removal of Mary J. Blige's Burger King ad, the Queen of Soul has finally spoken out on the matter.
According to a statement Blige issued to TMZ, the final version of the commercial — in which Blige appears standing on top of a table belting out the ingredients of the fast-food chain's new Crispy Chicken Wrap to the soundtrack of her single "Don't Mind" — was not what the singer thought she signed up for.
"I agreed to be a part of a fun and creative campaign that was supposed to feature a dream sequence. Unfortunately, that's not what was happening in that clip," Blige told the website. "I understand my fans being upset by what they saw. But, if you're a Mary fan, you have to know I would never allow an unfinished spot like the one you saw go out."
The ad received harsh criticism from fans, particularly those in the black community who complained that the content promoted a negative stereotype. Burger King immediately pulled the ad from its YouTube channel, but claimed it did so because of music-licensing issues. The company said it hopes to have the "ads back on the air soon," though they did not specify if the ads would be the same or if they would edit a new version.
Rumors have surfaced that Blige received $2 million for the ad — and she's not the only one. Other celebrities promoting the burger chain's new menu include soccer star David Beckham, actress Salma Hayek and late-night host Jay Leno.

With more than half the delegates needed for nomination, Romney setting sights on President Obama.

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney took a big step toward locking down the GOP presidential nomination on Tuesday when he pulled off a clean sweep of the day's three primaries. With decisive victories in Wisconsin, Maryland and the District of Columbia, Romney appeared to finally vanquish his rivals as he increasingly turned his attention to President Obama.
Romney won 42.5 percent of the vote in Wisconsin, outpacing his only remaining threat, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, who earned 37.6 percent. Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich were well behind both men in all three contests. In Maryland, Romney took 49.1 percent to Santorum's 28.9, and in Washington, D.C., Romney landed a commanding 70 percent to Paul's 12 and Gingrich's 11; Santorum was not on the ballot in D.C.
"This has really been quite a night. We won a great victory tonight in our campaign to restore the promise of America," Romney said.
"President Obama thinks he's doing a good job — I'm not kidding," he told a crowd in Milwaukee while standing in front of a large American flag, according to the New York Times. "It's enough to make you think that years of flying around on Air Force One, surrounded by an adoring staff of true believers telling you that you're great and you're doing a great job, it's enough to make you think that you might become a little out of touch."
After once again slamming the president for creating what he deemed a "government-centered society" based on bloated White House policies, Romney promised his followers that he would preside over a different America if he wins in November. "The dreamers can dream a little bigger, the help wanted signs can be dusted off, and we can start again," he said. "And this time we'll get it right."
Romney now has 58 percent of the delegates needed to secure the nomination, but his slow, methodical march to the magic number of 1,144 is not quite over, as Santorum vowed that he would stay in the race through the April 24 primaries. Five states will vote on that day, including his home state of Pennsylvania, where Santorum believes he can put up a convincing victory that might pave the way to more wins in May.
According to estimates, Romney has 648 delegates so far to Santorum's 264.
Even before Romney could celebrate, he got a taste of what the general election might feel like when President Obama singled him out for some criticism while speaking to a crowd of editors and reporters in Washington. Obama slammed Romney for supporting a GOP budget proposal that the president likened to "social Darwinism."
"He said that he's 'very supportive' of this new budget," Obama said of Romney, before seeming to mock his potential challenger's one-percent pedigree. "And he even called it 'marvelous,' which is a word you don't often hear when it comes to describing a budget ... it's a word you don't hear generally." He assailed the budget plan put forward by House Republicans for slashing funding for education and infrastructure in favor of more tax breaks for the wealthy.
The fiery speech came on the same day that Obama clinched the uncontested Democratic presidential nomination with wins in all three states.
With Santorum (not to mention Gingrich and Paul) showing no signs of leaving the GOP contest, pundits predicted that the road ahead for Romney could still be tough, as he must continue to beat back the other contenders in some Southern primaries in May while attempting to focus his fire on Obama.
